Western Port Swamp Landcare Group is a volunteer community caring for the landscape of the former Koo Wee Rup Great Swamp. Their area extends from Clyde through to Lang Lang and includes part of the Western Port UNESCO Ramsar wetland. The group formed in 1999, initially to address scotch thistles, and now focuses on restoring native vegetation, improving waterways, and creating habitat for local wildlife.
With only two percent of remnant vegetation remaining, their work includes shelterbelts, biodiversity corridors, wetlands and school arboretum projects. Western Port Swamp Landcare support several local primary and secondary schools providing amazing environmental education through their Bug Blitz, frog pond development and habitat creation projects. The group meets quarterly, runs field days and working bees, and welcomes community members, farmers, schools, and corporate groups.
