The Cannibal Creek Landcare Group volunteer to protect and enhance the Cannibal Creek catchment. Based in the Garfield and Tynong areas, the group focuses on native planting, habitat restoration, and creating vegetation corridors that support biodiversity, improve soil health, reduce erosion, and connect wildlife habitats across the landscape.
Members are community leaders and major projects include the Cannibal Creek Catchment Biodiversity Project and a significant restoration project at Lovers Lane in Garfield restoring an old grazing area to a biodiversity hot spot. They work on both private and public land, restoring native vegetation, managing invasive weeds and pest animals, and supporting the establishment of farm windbreaks and shelterbelts.
The group collaborates with Melbourne Water, Cardinia Shire Council, Landcare Australia, and the Western Port Catchment Landcare Network to access grants, resources, training, and technical support. Members can also access shared equipment, such as tools and water trailers, while connecting socially and contributing to local environmental care.
