Building resilience to climate change

This multi-partner project led by Melbourne Water aims to support farmers to improve resilience to climate change through a range of practical demonstrations, training and shared learning.

Within the Western Port region, WPCLN is delivering 16 farm walks, workshops and training days for farmers, along with the establishment of three-on-farm demonstration sites.

These sites were selected by a reference group of farmers and agricultural scientists and are being monitored over the life of the project. Demonstrations include biofertilisers compared with chicken litter in horticulture, multi-species pastures compared with traditional rye and clover systems in beef production, and foliar and biofertiliser applications compared with conventional fertilisers in dairy systems.

Field days and farm walks will be held at each site, providing opportunities to see results firsthand. The project is delivered in partnership with neighbouring Landcare networks, Mornington Peninsula and Macedon Ranges shires, Agriculture Victoria, and Mornington Peninsula Wine and Agribusiness Yarra Valley.

This project is funded by the Australian Government through the Climate Smart Agriculture Program.
