Building awareness, knowledge and skills in West and South Gippsland

Running from 2024 to 2028, this project supports farmers, First Nations peoples, and Landcare members to build practical skills and knowledge for climate-smart land management.

Each year, the project delivers 20 farmer discussion groups across the region, along with six field days that provide hands-on learning and opportunities to share experiences. An annual regenerative agriculture training program supports participants to improve soil health, build resilience to climate variability, and strengthen sustainable farming systems.

A key focus of the project is a training and mentoring program working with 18 farmers to develop skills in producing and using biofertilisers. This helps reduce reliance on imported inputs and supports more self-sufficient, environmentally sustainable farming practices. A biofertiliser farmer discussion group will also be established to encourage ongoing collaboration and learning. The project is delivered in partnership with regional Landcare networks and the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation.

This project is funded by the Australian Government through the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program Capacity Building Grants, and delivered by Bass Coast, Western Port Catchment and South Gippsland Landcare Networks.
