Planning positive partnership pathways against pests
Running February to November in 2025, Planning Positive Partnership Pathways Against Pests was a community-driven project that strengthened coordinated biosecurity action across the Western Port Catchment. Working with 13 Landcare and community groups across three local government areas, the project created opportunities for landholders, councils, agencies and Traditional Owners to share knowledge and plan collaboratively for improved invasive pest management.
Key activities included meetings with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, a network-wide strategic planning day, and targeted sessions on cats on public land, rabbits, blackberry management and invasive agricultural weeds. Farmer discussion groups and a Farm Planning Short Course further supported practical learning and peer connection.
The project delivered a clear, community-led strategic plan, strengthened partnerships across the catchment, and built local capability in best-practice pest control. By aligning priorities and identifying future funding pathways, the project helped create long-term foundations for effective, landscape-scale pest management.
