Preparing community to implement best method action against pests

WPCLN Preparing Community to Implement Best Method Action Against Pests will equip Landcare members and stakeholders to implement effective pest management across the Western Port Catchment. Covering 14 Landcare and community groups and a large, diverse landscape, the project aims to actively address invasive weeds and pest animals moving along roadsides, drainage lines and waterways.

Building on previous projects, this 2026 project will deliver mentoring and demonstration sessions, led by Victorian Rabbit Action Network (VRAN), a VRAN Bootcamp for emerging leaders, accredited firearms training for Landcare Pest Animal Team members and Bunurong Rangers, and Agricultural Chemical Skill Set training through Gippsland TAFE. A monitoring field day will teach participants to plan, implement, evaluate and adapt their pest control programs. This project also aims to strengthen partnerships between local councils, Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria, Bunurong Land Council and neighbouring Landcare networks.

Together, these activities will prepare the community to strategically align, implement and sustain best-practice pest management, improve biodiversity, support farmers, and foster long-term, community-led biosecurity across the catchment.

The Preparing Community to Implement Best Method Action Against Pests project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests Program.
