Toomuc Valley Landcare Group works to protect and enhance natural environments across the Toomuc Valley, including the R.J. Chambers Reserve and areas along Toomuc Creek. The group is known for its long-running Lyrebird surveys, monitoring the local territories and population health, alongside habitat restoration including old tree planting and nest box installation for possums and sugar gliders.
Toomuc Landcare also undertakes weed and pest animal management, addressing foxes, feral cats, blackberry, and invasive grasses. Significant projects include transforming degraded lease-land into the Toomuc Valley Nature Reserve through extensive planting and creek-side habitat enhancement, in partnership with local landholders, Westernport Catchment Landcare Network, Melbourne Water and the Cardinia Shire. Through practical conservation work, community engagement, and collaborative stewardship, the group strengthens ecosystems and supports biodiversity in the valley.
