Western Port Intrepid Landcare is based at the Windana Maryknoll Therapeutic Community and is a longstanding member of the Western Port Catchment Landcare Network. Windana supports individuals facing challenges such as alcohol and drug dependency, family violence, mental health difficulties, and social disadvantage, using a “community as method” rehabilitation model. The Intrepid Landcare approach connects volunteers with nature through hands-on environmental work paired with outdoor recreational activities.

The group focuses on coastal conservation and the biodiversity health of Back Creek, particularly woody weed management in habitat that supports the EPBC-listed Growling Grass Frog and Southern Brown Bandicoot. Volunteers gain practical skills, mentoring, and leadership opportunities, including training in pest plant control. Activities build wellbeing, confidence, and strong personal connections to nature and community.

Group leaders are industry experts in out-door recreation education and environmental management and run youth leadership mentoring camps within the Intrepid Landcare model.
